What bats can teach us about ovarian aging

Updated: Dec 31, 2024

Did you know that studying bats may be a window into understanding ovarian aging?

I've recently learned more about this - specifically how bats live incredibly long, healthy lives and can continue to have babies throughout the course of their lifetime. Serving as both a model for longevity and not experiencing menopause places them as an excellent species to study!

Read more here about the CRSHE interview I did with UCLA researcher, Dr. Karen Sears, from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

PS - Of note, one of Dr. Sear's students is beginning to examine the fascinating properties in bat breastmilk to see if it offers any insight into immunity, aging, etc.
